Water: Under-appreciated Elixir Of Life

water-birdWhile water might be “free,” clear, tasteless, without calories and dull, we still should call it the under-appreciated elixir of life when it comes to good health. Maybe you are having trouble falling asleep, or you feel a touch of cold or a cough coming on, or maybe you ate something that left you queasy, dare we say nauseous, and now you want a quick solution other than giving in to the call of the medicine cabinet. A glass of water might help, and it might not take long to get to work.

According to, the benefits of drinking water extend to maintaining proper pH balance, body temperature and metabolism. It can also help for constipation, heartburn, migraines, gastritis, kidney stones, backache and other afflictions, although a healthcare professional should be consulted if problems such as those persist. Water is not a cure-all, but it can be a part of the solution. That should come as no shock, considering our bodies are 60 percent composed of water.

The Dangers of the Lap Band

lap-bandAre you constantly trying to lose weight, but fighting a losing battle? Are you more than 100 pounds over the recommended weight for your height? You may be a candidate for a procedure, called lap band surgery. Lap band surgery is an acronym for the procedure known as Laparoscopic Gastric Banding. It is done using the Laparoscopic Technique and requires making 3 to 5 incisions of about 1” each. The surgeon inserts a small camera attached to a tube into one of the incisions and views the procedure on a monitor. The other incisions are for the medical instruments the surgeon will use and for the placement of the silicone band around the upper portion of the stomach. The band can then be adjusted by a “port” to restrict the flow of food into the stomach. The port is small reservoir connected to the lap band by a tube, and attached to your abdominal wall with sutures read more »

What is “Zerona?”

Zerona Medical Laser

The ZERONA® Laser Scanner is specially designed for use during non-invasive body contouring. The medical laser is applied externally and has proven through double-blind clinical trials to emulsify adipose tissue.

ZERONA is a new body-sculpting procedure designed to remove fat and contour the body without invasive surgery.  ZERONA unlike other procedures, allows the patient to continue their daily activities without interruptions from surgery, pain, wounds or garments.  ZERONA works by utilizing the Erchonia Laser Scanner to emulsify adipose tissue which then releases into the interstitial space.  The excess fat is passed through the body during its normal course of detoxification.  The ZERONA procedure was proven through a double-blind, randomized, multi-site, and placebo controlled study in which patients averaged a loss of 3-4 inches compared to the placebo group that lost only a half an inch.

The Cost of Liposuction

LiposuctionThe cost of liposuction is an important consideration for most people considering the surgery. Insurance policies typically will not cover most of what they consider to be cosmetic procedures. However, the quality of liposuction surgery is determined by more than just the cost of the procedure. If the primary goal of liposuction surgery is to have a happy patient, who is satisfied with the results, then the surgeon’s expertise and experience are probably more important than the cost of the procedure. Liposuction prices are equally important, but it is not the most important factor to be considered. Don’t discount your own happiness, and wellbeing. read more »

Struggling with weight loss

struggling with weight loss

Did you wake up this morning with nothing to look forward to? Another day feeling exhausted for no reason at all. Do hate the person looking back at you in the mirror. You’re not alone. Many Americans, and people all over the world suffer from obesity (having a body weight more than 20% greater than recommended for the relevant height). Why is this? Food is plentiful, and is loaded with calories. Fast food is the norm. A burger, fries and a coke. Would you like to up size that and add a Sundae? Or maybe a night out drinking.
In 1970 American’s ate one meal per week at restaurants; yet, by 2000 this had increased to 6 out of 7 meals per week. read more »
